Phase 2 Renovation of the Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue: Update to Construction Activities

Dear Baruch College Community,

The Phase 2 renovation and modernization of Baruch's historic Lawrence and Eris Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue (aka 17 Lex) began in January and is making progress. This work is being managed by CUNY and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) in coordination with the College's Office of Campus Facilities and Operations.

For the next several weeks, the contractor will be working in different areas of 17 Lex and moving the project into new phases of construction. To keep the project on schedule, the contractor will be working multiple shifts. New phases of construction include the delivery and installation of steel for the 7th floor, demolition work for the new Mason Hall elevator, and continuing demolition work for the new 1st floor bathrooms.

What to Expect During Upcoming Construction

  * The 2nd through 5th floors of 17 Lex will be closed on Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, between the hours of 6 am and 4 pm to allow a crane (placed on 23rd Street) to deliver steel for the 7th floor. As this is a weather-dependent operation, the backup date is the following weekend (March 9-10).
  * Over the next two to three weeks, from 7 am to 3 pm, please expect occasional "banging" noises audible from the 7th floor project site as the contractor places steel into position.
  * Demolition of the new Mason Hall elevator pit at the southeast portion of the building will begin and will include jackhammering and concrete removal. The contractor will be working from 7 am to 3 pm during normal business hours.
  * Repairs to the Stair "B" ceiling on the 1st floor will take place. The contractor will work in phases to maintain access and egress during this work.
  * Wayfinding signage and/or fire watch personnel will be posted indicating the emergency route, if needed. If you have questions about the path of egress, please speak with the Public Safety officer on duty.

Where can I report a problem?

Thank you for your interest, continued patience, and cooperation as we work to improve the College's physical infrastructure to meet the growing needs of our community. We look forward to sharing updates and project progress in the months to come.

Sincerely,

Tom Gaimaro

Director, Facilities Planning, Design and Construction
