Continuing our celebration of Black History at Baruch, we focus our video camera lens on the Honorable Carl E. Heastie (MBA ’07) <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=WUQR40c9bkCAi5HLBrNC9A&ref_id=BT2PX27qy0aC3-usKJg9cw> , who made history in 2015 as the first Black speaker of the New York State Assembly.

Speaker Heastie has led efforts to increase the minimum wage, reform the criminal justice system, and grow investments in public education and affordable housing.

The alumnus spoke at the College’s 2019 Commencement ceremony (shown), sharing what he learned as a student at Baruch and how he applies those lessons today: “We cannot deliver real change if we don’t do it together.”

Previous Black History at Baruch videos have featured the College’s first president, Robert C. Weaver <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=gU8Ci9X19kKZSj1ro_w7qQ&ref_id=BT2PX27qy0aC3-usKJg9cw> , and our standout Percy E.
