Denying Brazil: Virtual Screenings and Discussion, Part of Baruch’s Collaboration with the New York African Diaspora International Film Festival

With the generous support of the CUNY Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI) and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation<https://www.cuny.edu/academics/current-initiatives/bresi/>, the Baruch College Office of Diversity, Compliance, and Equity Initiatives (ODCEI) has had the privilege to host lectures, panel discussions, and film screenings throughout the 2022–23 academic year. Denying Brazil: Virtual Screenings and Special Panel Discussion

Based on extensive research and personal experiences, this film explores the history, taboos, stereotypes, and struggles of Black actors in Brazilian soap operas, analyzing the potential impacts of these televised serials on the identity-forming processes of Black people.
