Elevator Update: Maintenance, Etiquette, Safety, and Ongoing Improvements

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Baruch's Campus Facilities and Operations team works diligently to keep the College's elevators in safe working order. We know this is a topic of great importance and want to share some helpful information.

Maintaining Service
Because the College relies on vertical means of transportation, Baruch continues to make significant investments to ensure our elevators are functioning and stay in service while we pursue comprehensive improvements. Maintenance includes:

  * Services from an on-site third-party provider to maintain our elevators daily
  * Regular independent inspection and testing

Tips for Elevator Etiquette and Safety
Help us keep our elevators in good working condition:

  *   Avoid overcrowding the elevators.
  * Consider taking the stairs when possible.
  * Never use your body to hold open or lean on elevator doors.
  * Push the elevator button just once when you enter the elevator.
  * Keep clothing and bags clear of closing elevator doors.

If the elevator stalls between floors or the doors fail to open:

  * Please remain calm and use the emergency call button or phone to notify Public Safety and follow their instructions.
  * Never attempt to exit a stalled elevator without the help of building management or an emergency responder.
  * Move to the rear center of the elevator and face the doors while waiting for help.
  * Be courteous to other riders and the building staff.
  * Offer to help those who might need assistance.

More Comprehensive Improvements
For updates on elevator improvements by building, please visit the Campus Facilities & Operations webpage<https://adminfinance.baruch.cuny.edu/campus-facilities-operations/> and click on "Elevator Info & Updates" under "Resources."

The importance of this critical infrastructure is paramount to our collective success and remains a top priority. We look forward to sharing updates on our progress and thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Larry Manganello, MBA, CFM
Assistant Vice President, Campus Facilities and Operations
