Historic Partnership: BMCC-Baruch Business Academy Launch

In a special ceremony that drew about 100 supporters to the Clivner=Field Plaza yesterday, Baruch President S. David Wu and Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) President Anthony E. Munroe officially launched the BMCC-Baruch Business Academy<https://newscenter.baruch.cuny.edu/news/borough-of-manhattan-community-college-baruch-college-launch-business-academy-ensuring-academic-career-success/> yesterday. The academy<https://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/academic-programs/undergraduate/baruch-business-academy/> will provide a clear, well-defined path for eligible BMCC students who earn an associate degree in business administration, then transfer into a bachelor's program at Baruch's Zicklin School of Business.

Community Highlights and Celebrations

  * The College welcomed back about 200 graduates from the classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 at Baruch Alumni Homecoming<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__photos.google.com_share_AF1QipN6McQTa8CB96UHKAmuLFgUxFbJ-2DPjl2M42a5yyLrZB3YYn04jsmgGpbkhv0r36EQ-3Fkey-3Damx6bWY1SFVlcGs3c0FtMWRTcDNMYTBUbmwzQlRR&d=DwIFAw&c=mRWFL96tuqj9V0Jjj4h40ddo0XsmttALwKjAEOCyUjY&r=QqGTWwETQPvT5sKM_15AhgZVFGrfUAO5RzyvaZkerC-6Ja8boJ6WjQigKSMIL4YJqULuWUr9n6RTlWGcZbXPDg&m=sGxG-VR1hZwL8EU8Ffjw24ArrfB7-9TeZuuxwK-ZXJYedg2T1qRQQ3MZTYjwQEpJ&s=klNujue3qNF8CbnKxyFze_ya8yReZrmsDr5M0X3L13A&e= >. The in-person event, hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations and Volunteer Engagement, honored their resilience and accomplishments.
  * Nearly 130 students, faculty, staff, and alumni came together for the recent Appreciative Inquiry Summit, part of Baruch's strategic planning process<https://strategicplanning.baruch.cuny.edu/>, to lend their voices and perspectives. Telling the story of the summit-in photos, charts, thematic word clouds, and illustrations-is this engaging summary<https://strategicplanning.baruch.cuny.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2022/10/Baruch-College-Appreciative-Inquiry-Summit-Summary.pdf>.

Dynamic Practitioners and Faculty Researchers

  * Congratulations to Monroe Russell who was just named Baruch's new Assistant Vice President for Finance. Mr. Russell has many years of financial management experience, having served as Baruch's Finance Controller for 10 years and in the CUNY's Treasury Office for 10 years.
  * A trio of articles by Vera Haller and Gisele Regatão (Journalism and the Writing Professions) exploring the contradictions of modern Peruvian identity and the country's economic and political disparity<https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/weissmanartsandsciences/?p=822> were published by TheWorld.org.
  * The Rockefeller Institute of Government named Marxe Assistant Professor Rahul Pathak one of its Richard P. Nathan Public Policy Fellows for 2022-23<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__rockinst.org_news_article_the-2Drockefeller-2Dinstitute-2Dof-2Dgovernment-2Dannounces-2Dthe-2D2022-2D23-2Drichard-2Dp-2Dnathan-2Dpublic-2Dpolicy-2Dfellows_&d=DwIFAw&c=mRWFL96tuqj9V0Jjj4h40ddo0XsmttALwKjAEOCyUjY&r=QqGTWwETQPvT5sKM_15AhgZVFGrfUAO5RzyvaZkerC-6Ja8boJ6WjQigKSMIL4YJqULuWUr9n6RTlWGcZbXPDg&m=sGxG-VR1hZwL8EU8Ffjw24ArrfB7-9TeZuuxwK-ZXJYedg2T1qRQQ3MZTYjwQEpJ&s=60SDrmtf2TohBSrpyikNgSDcHQbNjtvDV-RFcJf3qBI&e= >. He will study the pandemic's impact on the finances of cities in New York State and the trajectory of fiscal and economic recovery.

Stay Connected
Amazing to welcome and hear John Gomes (MBA '02) (pictured at left), co-founder of the Eklund|Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate and television star, speak at the Weissman Center for International Business's Mitsui Lunchtime Forum.

The Baruch alumnus who has emerged as the "Broker to the Stars" and his presentation "Real Estate 101 from the Nation's Top Broker" was a big hit for members of the community who were in attendance including Zicklin Professor of Marketing and International Business Myung-Soo Lee (pictured at right) and on the Baruch Alumni social media channels where it received 49 likes.
