Baruch Forward: Spring 2021

Dear Students,

On Monday, the CUNY Board of Trustees approved CUNY’s decision to “extend and continue the offering of online and distance learning instructional modality for the delivery of courses in degree and nondegree programs and the offering of remote support services for the Spring Semester 2021.” CUNY and the Board recognize that by reducing the density of individuals on campuses and continuing to offer classes and support services in a primarily online and remote format we can all better ensure the continued health, safety, and welfare of our students, faculty, and staff during the ongoing and unpredictable Covid-19 pandemic.

Student Support Services

Our Office of Student Life <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=L4rISVWz3US5yKyr5I5PQQ&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> encourages student engagement in its virtual campus communities via participation in the 120+ student clubs and organizations, and the Counseling Center <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=7hfULZ57uUCSOyHRE4pRXw&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> will continue to provide confidential telehealth support. Services are available in Mandarin, Shanghainese, Spanish, Arabic, and Korean, in addition to English. Further, we encourage students who are experiencing food insecurity and other short-term financial emergencies to contact the Office of the Dean of Students to inquire about our Student Emergency Fund <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=Aqoaim4j4kWxRPO5Pt2uJw&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> . In addition, the Early Learning Center <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=7Tu40hQ5yUKgk_ekbSjBcQ&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> , which provides child care; the Student Health Center <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=xgpy-KpjSkWwfotNCnbP7g&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> ; and quiet study spaces <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=S9vRn1Ng6U6rE-iFAJ_O5w&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> are available. Please also visit the Baruch Forward website <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=-osT9NwmrU2-Re26o-1MYw&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> , which is updated with resources, tools, and guidance for students, faculty, and staff.

Thank You for Your Continued Resilience

With CUNY and the Board of Trustees’ decision, we can better plan for spring and the months ahead. However, it is critical for us to remain nimble as Baruch—and indeed the nation—continues to respond to unpredictable times and rapidly evolving regulations. We don’t know the full extent of how spring and future terms will play out, but one thing is certain: the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is the highest priority for Baruch and CUNY and will be the key factor in determining the balance between in-person and remote learning and working.

I want to thank you for your continued strength, flexibility, and understanding. I also ask that you engage with me on Twitter @DavidWuBaruch, through my blog <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=pggYaxIXfU2rYZIl0VPJSA&ref_id=kAiN7-fNzkG8E3yAjTrsCQ> , and via email at [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> . It is critical for me to hear from you as we move forward during these difficult times.

Sincerely,

S. David Wu

President, Baruch College
