About the Program/Learning Objectives
Join the Stan Ross Department of Accountancy as we welcome Vernon J. Richardson, professor of Accounting and the G. William Glezen Distinguished
Chair of Accounting at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. While the mounds of data proliferate and the capabilities of machines increasingly do much of the accounting work, the role of the accountant is changing, potentially
in a dramatic way. At the same time, accounting curricula have barely changed over the past thirty years. In this talk, Professor Richardson will discuss ways for data analytics to saturate each course in the accounting curricula, using experiential data
analytics to help develop higher order skills to sustain a competitive advantage over machines and others that might work to
dis intermediate the accounting role.
The
Emanuel Saxe Distinguished Lectures in Accounting are given as a public service by Baruch College of the City University of New York under the auspices of the Baruch College Fund and the
Stan Ross Department of Accountancy. The lectures were established to honor
Emanuel
Saxe, Dean and Professor Emeritus at Baruch College, formerly Morton Wollman Distinguished Professor of Accountancy and University Distinguished Professor (for more information on Professor

One hour of CPE in Accounting is available for attending this lecture.

About the Speaker
Vernon J. Richardson is Professor of Accounting and
the G. William Glezen Distinguished Chair of
Accounting at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. He received his BS, MAcc, and MBA from Brigham Young University and a PhD in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has taught students at the University
of Arkansas, University of Illinois, Brigham Young University, Baruch College, Aarhus University, University of Kansas, Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University (Suzhou) and the China Europe International Business School (Shanghai).
Dr. Richardson is a member of the American Accounting Association. He has served as president of the American Accounting Association Information
Systems section. He was formerly editor at the Accounting Review and is currently an editor at Accounting Horizons. He also served as
associate editor at MIS Quarterly and the Journal of Information Systems. He has published articles in the Accounting
Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Operations Management and the Journal
of Marketing. Dr. Richardson is also the author of two textbooks, Accounting Information Systems and Data Analytics for Accounting published
by McGraw Hill.
