April 24 Is Denim Day

Dear Baruch College Community,

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault, we invite you to participate in Denim Day on Wednesday, April 24, by wearing jeans (or any denim clothing) to promote awareness of societal myths surrounding sexual violence.

What Is Denim Day?
The Denim Day campaign arose out of the decision of the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction. In that case, the court found that the sexual assault survivor must have participated in consensual sex because her jeans were very tight and therefore could not have been removed without her assistance. The next day, women in the Italian Parliament protested this decision by wearing jeans on the steps of the Supreme Court, marking the beginning of the Denim Day movement.

Please join us in demonstrating Baruch's commitment to the support of sexual assault survivors, and the prevention of sexual violence on our campus and beyond, by wearing denim this Wednesday, April 24.

Sincerely,

Kimara Patton
Deputy Chief Diversity Officer and Title IX/EEO Coordinator

Lakisha Skrine
Executive Director of Human Resources

Olga Dais
