Collaboration Key to Addressing Climate Change and Building Sustainability

Policy makers, private sector partners, and faculty and leaders from Baruch’s three schools came together on March 10 for the College’s Inaugural Conference on Climate Research, Teaching, and Collaboration. The dialogue centered on the critical research and teaching needs in climate science, environmental sustainability, and resiliency. Influencers Make Their Mark

  • President S. David Wu was named to City & State’s “Higher Education Power 100” list for the third consecutive year. The list recognizes the state’s most influential leaders in higher education.
  • Marxe Associate Professor Anna D’Souza discusses her passion for improving diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and how leaning in to DEI’s complexity informs her scholarship, teaching, and identity.
  • The Amsterdam News profiled Jaleel Thomas (’20), founder of Belauded, an emerging global platform for Black designer fashion. As a student, Thomas helped establish the tradition of Black Graduation.

 

More Innovation Around Campus

  • The Zicklin School of Business has launched its Online MBA. The program, which offers the same rigorous, real-world curriculum, anticipates admitting its first class of students for Fall 2023.
  • From music therapy, to recycled luxury fashion, to posture-improving mattresses, three undergraduates have each won $1,000 in the preliminary round of the Blackstone LaunchPad Ideas Competition.

Baruch’s caring community came out in force earlier this month at a fundraiser organized by the Undergraduate Student Government for Turkey and Syria Disaster Relief. All donations—more than $1,500—went directly to UNICEF. Thanks to all who donated and helped out at this event.

Undergraduates, showcase your work and knowledge beyond the classroom at Research & Creative Inquiry Expo 2023. Students in any major may submit either an individual or group project. Deadline: Tuesday, May 2.

 

Department of Journalism and the Writing Professions Essay Contest

Students who are currently taking or have taken a class in the Department of Journalism and the Writing Professions are invited to submit a 600- to 800-word personal essay on the topic “What you’ve lost and what you’ve found.” Email submissions to both Professors Bridgett Davis and Gisele Regatão by Wednesday, Apr. 5.

Academic Momentum

To graduate on time and, in some cases, retain financial aid, most full-time students should plan to take at least 30 credits per academic year. Chart your course to on-time graduation.

 

It’s Never Too Early to File Your FAFSA

File the 2023–24 FAFSA for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 terms. Obtain or retrieve your Federal Student Aid ID to sign electronically. Baruch’s Federal Code is 007273. The NYS TAP (NY residents only) code is 1409.

 

Support from the Counseling Center

The Baruch College Counseling Center offers free and confidential services. Through culturally responsive and trauma-informed counseling and psychological services, the Counseling Center assists students in achieving their academic and personal goals.

  • Individual Counseling: Please visit the Counseling Center’s website and click on the “Make an Appointment” button or email [log in to unmask].
  • Group Counseling: Two sessions of Relationship to Self and Others meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1–2 pm on Zoom. To participate on Tuesday, email [log in to unmask]; to participate on Thursday, email [log in to unmask].
  • Black Mental Health Matters Support Sessions foster and support the growth, networking, collaboration, success, and well-being of Black students. Fridays, 2–3 pm via Zoom. To participate, email [log in to unmask] from your Baruch student email account.
  • Beginning Friday, Mar. 24, the center is offering a six-session Asian and AAPI Workshop series on Fridays at 1 pm via Zoom. The series, led by two Asian/AAPI clinicians, will explore “Asian/AAPI” identity and hopes to foster a sense of community and connection.
