Celebrating Black History and Education at Baruch

  • Black History Month 2023 got underway last week with a kick-off celebration (pictured above). Check out the extensive schedule of events exploring this year’s theme—Black Resistance—and follow the celebration on Instagram @BHM_Baruch.
  • The Department of Black and Latino Studies was awarded its first grant from the Mellon Foundation: $150,000 to support community-engaged teaching and research.

 

President Wu Honored by City & State, Interviewed on NY1

  • President S. David Wu, who was selected among 10 Lifetime Achievement Honorees within City & State’s annual “50 Over 50” list, delivered remarks at a gala held at Sony Hall last Tuesday.
  • On Wednesday, NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan invited President Wu to appear on Mornings On 1 (pictured below) to discuss the gala, the pivot to online learning during the pandemic, and more.

 

Wendy Steinberg Joins Baruch as VP for OCMPA

President Wu announced the appointment of Wendy Steinberg to serve as Vice President for the Office of Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs (OCMPA), effective February 21, subject to the approval of the CUNY Board of Trustees.

FAFSA Resources and News

  • FAFSA: The Guide: Understanding FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Save time, money, and stress.
  • File the 2023–24 FAFSA for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 terms. Obtain or retrieve your Federal Student Aid ID to sign electronically. If you are a dependent, one parent will need an ID to sign too. Baruch’s Federal Code is 007273. The NYS TAP (NY residents only) code is 1409.

The Presidential Excellence Awards Committees seek nominations for the Presidential Excellence Awards for Distinguished Scholarship, Distinguished Teaching, and Distinguished Service. Deadline: Friday, Feb. 10.

The Hult Prize Competition—sometimes called the Nobel Prize for Students—challenges young people to solve the planet's most pressing issues. The Baruch College Counseling Center offers free and confidential services. Through culturally responsive and trauma-informed counseling and psychological services, the Counseling Center assists students in achieving their academic and personal goals.
