December 21, 2022 Next Week: Planned Elevator Outage for the Newman Vertical Campus Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff, As the campus community prepares for the upcoming semester break, the Department of Buildings and Grounds is working with the Dormitory Authority
of the State of New York (DASNY), the agency that oversees major construction across CUNY campuses, to undertake critical maintenance projects while fewer people are on campus.
With that reasoning, two elevator banks in the Newman Vertical Campus (NVC) will be offline from
Monday, Dec. 26, through Wednesday, Dec. 28, to replace the large electrical lines that feed the elevators in the building.
Please plan ahead. Prior to
the shutdown, take any items you may need from your office. Managers should work with their staff to coordinate remote work as needed.
What to Expect
This necessary elevator work overlaps with the floor tile replacement work that is ongoing in the NVC lobby.
As communicated last week, DASNY intends to complete most of that project by the end of December, with as much work as possible taking place after business hours and on weekends. Signage will be posted as needed to alter foot-traffic circulation through
the area and indicate emergency exits. Proactive critical maintenance such as this is necessary to keep Baruch operating as smoothly as possible. However, it is difficult to advance
critical infrastructure projects in an occupied building. Please be aware that both Buildings and Grounds and DASNY strive to keep disruptions to a minimum. Large-scale construction can have unforeseen complications; we will communicate as promptly as possible
to keep you informed as situations evolve. Continued thanks for your understanding and patience as we repair and upgrade the NVC. Sincerely, Tom Gaimaro Director, Campus Facilities and Operations |
