Co-Creating Our Strategic Plan: Progress Update and Next Steps

Dear Campus Community,

We are pleased to update you on the progress that we have collectively made in the Baruch College strategic planning process. As outlined in our last campus update, nearly 500 stakeholders were engaged during the fall semester through numerous  listening sessions, the on-site Appreciative Inquiry Summit, and two virtual Strategic Planning Town Halls. These events were designed to recognize the many perspectives of our campus community regarding the current state of Baruch and the aspirations all stakeholders have for the College.

Our most recent engagements—the Town Halls and an in-person meeting of the Baruch College Fund Board—revealed the enthusiasm across constituent groups for collaboratively envisioning our collective future. During the sessions, participants reflected on the strengths of and aspirations for Baruch and shared their top ideas for future strategic priorities while also noting opportunities for improvement. A few key themes included:

  • Invest in infrastructure to advance our mission of making excellence accessible
  • Leverage our location in New York City to accelerate success
  • Enhance our reputation by building on our legacy of excellence
  • Center Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, including fostering an inclusive and welcoming campus culture

Over the coming weeks, the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) will review key findings from our various engagement activities and outputs and work to co-create draft elements of the strategic plan. As the committee begins this next phase, we will provide additional opportunities for sharing feedback. Ensuring this plan is inclusive of the many voices across our campus and community is key to its success.

If you have any questions about the strategic planning effort, please feel free to reach out to us, any member of the SPC, or visit the strategic planning website and use the open comment tool to ask questions or submit feedback.

We would also like to take this moment to wish you all a restful holiday weekend.

With gratitude,

Dr. Linda Essig

Provost and Chair, Baruch Community Strategic Planning Committee
