Electrical Shutdown and Closure of the Field Building at 17 Lex this Saturday, Oct. 15

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As part of the ongoing renovation of the historic Lawrence and Eris Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue, the building will be closed this Saturday, Oct. 15, from 5 am to noon, and power will be shut down for emergency generator testing. All emergency systems will remain active. Members of the facilities team will be onsite during the shutdown but no one else will be permitted to enter the building.

What to Expect

  • Classes that take place in 17 Lex on Saturday morning have been relocated to the Newman Vertical Campus, and affected faculty and staff have been notified directly. Facilities has likewise coordinated with the Department of Natural Sciences so laboratory work can be planned accordingly, and temporary power can be arranged to maintain critical equipment during the power outage.

  • Desktop computers in 17 Lex will be off during the power shutdown and not available for remote use. BCTC has configured computers to restart automatically when power is restored, but there may be some computers thatdo not turn on as anticipated. In those cases, please call (646) 660-6000 so a Public Safety Officer can restart the computer manually.

  • Other South Campus buildings—Newman Hall and the Administration Building—will not be affected. Computers and network access should remain available. Phones on South Campus, including in 17 Lex, should operate normally during the electrical shutdown as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you in advance for your continued understanding and patience as we modernize and upgrade Baruch’s facilities and infrastructure.

Sincerely,

Larry Manganello, MBA, CFM

Assistant Vice President, Campus Facilities and Operations
