October Is LGBTQIA+ History Month

Baruch College celebrates the history and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community with a focus on “Claiming Our Past. Celebrating Our Present. Creating Our Future.” Events range from networking sessions and panel discussions, to readings, poetry, and a film screening.

 

Inspiring Stories Around Campus

  • As winners of a global essay competition, Zicklin students Nila Paramathas (MS ’22) and Maniza Pritila (MS ’23) traveled all expenses paid to the St. Gallen Symposium in Switzerland share their ideas on many of today’s pressing issues.
  • Jacques St. Cloud (MPA ’23), this month’s Marxe Student Spotlight, shares his experience working for the NYC Economic Development Corporation.
  • Feeling the Baruch pride! Sociology Professor Barbara Katz Rothman is among the faculty winners of the Graduate Center’s 2022 Mentoring and Teaching Awards. Read about her amazing impact.

  • Students now have free access to more than 16,000 expert-led courses to develop new skills, earn certification credentials, and more through LinkedIn Learning.
  • The boiler that generates heat for the College’s South Campus buildings is currently undergoing repairs. Read the Campus Operation Notice for guidance.
  • Join students, faculty, and staff next Thursday, Oct. 13, noon–3 pm, on the Clivner=Field Plaza for Baruch College’s Fall Celebration!

Academic Momentum

To graduate on time and, in some cases, retain financial aid, most full-time students should plan to take at least 30 credits per academic year. Chart your course to on-time graduation.

 

FAFSA Resources & News

  • FAFSA: The Guide: Understanding FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Save time, money, and stress.
  • Apply for the Financial Aid You Deserve: Students can now file the 2023-24 FAFSA for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Obtain a Federal Student Aid ID to sign electronically. If you are a dependent, one parent will need an ID to sign as well. Baruch’s Federal Code is 007273. The NYS TAP (NY residents only) code is 1409.

 

Support from the Counseling Center

The Baruch College Counseling Center offers free and confidential services. Through culturally responsive and trauma-informed counseling and psychological services, the Counseling Center assists students in achieving their academic and personal goals.

  • Individual Counseling: Please visit the Counseling Center’s website and click on the “Make an Appointment” button or email [log in to unmask].
  • Group Counseling: Two sessions of Relationship to Self and Others meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1–2 pm on Zoom. To participate in the Tuesday group, email [log in to unmask]; to participate in the Thursday group, email [log in to unmask].
  • Black Mental Health Matters Support Sessions: These sessions foster and support the growth, networking, collaboration, success, and well-being of Black students. Fridays, 2–3 pm via Zoom. To participate, students should send an email to [log in to unmask] from their Baruch student email account.
  • Depression Screening Day: Tuesday, Oct. 11, noon–2 pm. Stop by the Counseling Center Depression Screening table on the Clivner=Field Plaza to complete a quick screening form and meet briefly with a Counseling Center staff member. More information here.
  • Let’s Talk About It – Caring Conversations: Thursday, Oct. 20, 12:30–2 pm. In this interactive presentation, the Counseling Center will help students gain confidence to support peers who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts.
