Mental Health Awareness Week at Baruch

Dear Baruch Students, Faculty, and Staff:

Please mark your calendars for Baruch’s inaugural Mental Health Awareness Week, to be held Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11. This year’s theme is “Self-Care and Care for Others.”

This campus-specific week was planned for the midpoint of the spring semester and ahead of midterms as a reminder to take care of ourselves and others during a busy time of the year. The idea was generated from within Baruch’s Suicide Prevention Task Force and in partnership with the Jed Foundation, a nonprofit organization that collaborates with schools and colleges to help protect the emotional health of, and prevent suicide in, student populations.

The goal of Mental Health Awareness Week is to help you get to know the resources that are available to you, as well as the people around the College who are here to assist. The Counseling Center and the Office of Human Resources have planned events for students, faculty, and staff that are designed to help you manage stress, recognize warning signs in yourself and others, explore yoga and mindfulness, and more. Please visit the Mental Health Awareness Week website <https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=tRfZUs8Idk2JXBJrdILGUg&ref_id=IXRz1vX1C0W5AlErIXStmg> for details and, in some cases, registration information. Also note that Baruch will likewise observe the national Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

I would like to thank Lynn Kaplan, Associate Director, Baruch College Counseling Center, and Andrea Caviness, Executive Director, Office of Human Resources, for launching this initiative and for bringing the Baruch community together to focus on our mental health and well-being.

Sincerely,

Linda Essig

Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
