My October Blog: “A Personal Reflection on Discovery, Diversity, and Human Connections”

Dear Baruch Community,

I have been pondering on the implications of social justice as related to equity, diversity, and inclusion and the foundation of our democracy. In my latest blog post, “A Personal Reflection on Discovery, Diversity, and Human Connections,” I reflect on our responsibility to our students and the importance of being curious and embracing the unfamiliar. Through the authentic appreciation of our differences, we can unite to address difficult challenges in our communities.

  • Our perspectives are shaped by a complex combinations of cultural influences, personal experiences, as well as expectations and anxieties. How do we continue to cultivate an environment of learning that is open to understanding cultures, backgrounds, and points of view different from our own?

  • Understanding can occur when we truly appreciate others. As a learning community, how do we best fulfill our obligation to create an environment for developing a sense of wonder and the bravery to embrace something unfamiliar and someone completely different from us?

I invite you to read the post in its entirety here and subscribe, comment, like, and sign up for notifications. Our dialogues and conversations will help us improve our work today and envision a better Baruch and world for us all.

Sincerely,

S. David Wu

President, Baruch College
