25th Street Plaza Underground Excavation Work

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Starting today, the New York City Department of Design and Construction has begun working on East 25th Street to replace aging underground infrastructure. The work being done is necessary to ensure that the underground infrastructure is in good shape before above-ground work can begin to create the permanent Clivner=Field Plaza.

Work has started on the street bed at Third Avenue and will extend to mid-block on East 25th Street near the Newman Vertical Campus (NVC).  It will involve excavation to evaluate the underground infrastructure, focusing on Con Ed utility lines and the water main. Part of the project will include the replacement of the main Con Ed gas line, which will take three to four months. The second phase of the project will involve the replacement of the aging water main line that runs under the plaza.

During the project, all the sidewalks will remain open but will be lined with pedestrian fencing so that no one can enter the construction work area.

We will continue to keep you updated on this important project.

Vice President of Administration & Finance
