The next CIDR Demography Seminar is on Friday, December 13, 2013.  

Title:  "Trends in international migration and the recent discussion of migration issues at the United Nations"
Speaker:  John Wilmoth, United Nations
Time: 1- 2:30 pm, Friday, December 13, 2013
Location: Room 5383, the CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue on the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street.

As usual, there will also be lunch with the speaker at noon at the GC cafeteria on the 8th floor.  Fellows can also meet with the speaker after the seminar to discuss his work and ask for advice about graduate school, research, job market, career, etc.

About the speaker:  Dr. John Wilmoth has been Director of the United Nations Population Division, within the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, since January 2013.  He worked previously for the Population Division as Chief of its Mortality Section from 2005 to 2007.  With a distinguished academic background, Dr. Wilmoth has been Professor at the University of California at Berkeley and a researcher in Berkeley's Center on the Economics and Demography of Ageing.  He is the author or co-author of more than 50 scientific papers on various aspects of population dynamics.  From 2009 to 2012, he held consultancy positions at the World Health Organization and the World Bank, serving as the lead consultant for the development of new maternal mortality estimates used for the monitoring of MDG 5.  He has been a member of several expert panels convened by the U.S. government and National Academy of Sciences.
