The 2013 LIS Introductory Summer Workshop will be held 30 June - 7 July, at the University of Luxembourg campus.

Applications are due 15 March 2013. Decisions will be made by 29 March.

This one-week workshop is designed to introduce researchers in the social sciences to comparative research in income distribution, employment and social policy, using the Luxembourg Income Study Database (LIS). LIS is the largest available database of harmonised income microdata collected over a period of decades. See the list of countries and datasets in LIS.

Attendees will also be introduced to the Luxembourg Wealth Study (LWS). LWS is the first cross-national database of harmonised wealth microdata in existence. See the list of countries and datasets in LWS.

Workshop faculty includes the LIS directors, Janet Gornick and Markus Jäntti, the LIS staff and guest lecturers. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be fully trained to use the databases independently.

In addition, the winners of the annual Aldi Hagenaars Memorial Award and World Bank/LIS Gender Research Award will present their papers.

LIS welcomes applications from researchers with varying levels of knowledge and experience. The language of instruction is English.

Participants are responsible for their own tuition and transportation to and from Luxembourg. The €1,400 tuition covers instructional materials, single-occupancy accommodations, and full board.

Unfortunately, LIS is not able to offer partial or full scholarships. Applicants are encouraged to seek third-party funding. LIS staff will be happy to assist in any way needed.
