We have learned, though it has not yet officially been announced and won't be until
later in the week, that the William and Anita Newman Library has won this year's
Excellence in Academic Library Award for the college category (there is an award
also for a university and for a community college. The award is given by the
Association of College and Research Libraries, the academic division of the
American Library Association.
This is a very prestigious award, now in its fourth year, sponsored by Blackwell's and
judged and given by the ACRL. The three previous winners, to serve as examples
of the kinds of institutions against which we competed, are Oberlin College,
Wellesley College, and Earlham College.
Meanwhile, this award will not formally be announced for at least another two or
three days, so please do not share the news with colleagues from other institutions.
When the story appears on our website, the news will be official.
Do, however, join us in extending heartfelt congratulations to the entire hardworking
staff of the Newman Library.
