Re: Vice President for Student Development and Enrollment Management

I am delighted to announce that Dr. Ben M. Corpus, Vice President for
Student Development and Enrollment Management and Dean of Students at Baruch
College, begins his tenure with Baruch on Monday, August 8, 2005.

Dr. Corpus competed in a national search that drew 92 applicants and he
emerged as the leading candidate of three finalists who visited campus. The
three finalists interviewed with the Student Affairs Committee, the
President's Cabinet, and senior members of Student Development and
Admissions. Several students sat on two of the groups. Dr. Corpus received
overwhelming support from all groups.

Dr. Corpus came to us from Hostos Community College were he served as Vice
President for Student Development and Enrollment Management. He oversaw 14
departments, 96 employees and a $4 million budget. Under his enrollment
leadership, Hostos experienced a 34% increase in student enrollment and
developed intercollegiate athletics, including a national championship men's
basketball team. He also hosted the first ever athletics fund-raiser at
Hostos with good success.

Dr. Corpus brings to Baruch sixteen years of progressively more responsible
positions in higher educational administration. In addition to his four
years at Hostos, he has held positions at New York University and at SUNY,
both at the University at Albany and Plattsburgh State University. He was
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at
SUNY Plattsburg from 1999 to 2001 and Associate Director of the Center for
Urban Community College Leadership at New York University from 1995 to 1998.

He holds a PhD in higher education governance and policy from New York
University, and has taught courses in higher education administration at
Baruch’s School of Public Affairs and at NYU. Dr. Corpus is an active
member of the Hispanic Caucus of the American Association of Higher
Education, NASPA, and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

I wish once again to thank Sam Johnson, who stepped down on June 30, for his
many years of dedicated service to the students of Baruch College. Sam
remains a valued colleague and rejoins the teaching faculty in the coming
spring semester.

Ron Aaron, Associate Dean of Students, had been serving as Acting Vice
President for Student Development from July 1, until Dr. Corpus’s arrival.
I am grateful to Dr. Aaron for his leadership and experience during this
time of transition.
