Important information follows from the English Department on student
writing. PLEASE NOTE, however, that, as before, the team of
dedicated information professionals who SEND OUT these public
announcements are NOT THE APPROPRIATE persons to whom to
respond about the specific contents of the announcements.
Therefore: PLEASE DO NOT 'REPLY' to this e-mail, or any future
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT e-mail, unless you wish to be sidetracked
by an amusing electronic exchange with certain particularly prolix
members of the information squad.
Instead, contact the person who is (invariably) listed at the end of the
announcement as the PROPER CONTACT PERSON for the
information concerned (thus, below, Professor Dalgish, in this case
only...).
Replying to this e-mail is like talking to the water boy about the
chemical bonding of the H2O molecule. We convey this information,
but cannot refine or explicate it.
Thank you.

Re: Discussion/Demonstration of Keys for Writers
Many of us at Baruch are concerned with ways of helping our students
improve their writing. Last spring the Department of English voted to
adopt a common handbook for use in our courses this fall -- Ann
Raimes' Keys for Writers; A Brief Handbook.
Now we would like to reach out to the entire Baruch community by
inviting Ann Raimes, a professor of English at Hunter College, to
present a discussion/demonstration of possible uses of her book and
its ancillary student and faculty materials.
This event will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday,
September 19, in the English Department Conference Room, B7-210
VC.
Professor Raimes will focus on uses of her book not only in English
classes but also in those disciplines outside of English where writing
is integral. She is an engaging and knowledgeable speaker whose
insights will be valuable to all faculty who wish to encourage student
writing. We hope this event will lead to more widespread and focused
attention on student writing throughout the college.
Please RSVP if you can attend. Refreshments will be served, provided
by Houghton Mifflin, Professor Raimes' publisher.
