Re: DegreeWorks Project launched; Stephen Andrus appointed project manager

We are delighted to announce the launch of DegreeWorks, an on-line student
degree audit and advising system being implemented over the next nine months
and the appointment of Stephen Andrus as the DegreeWorks project manager. The
system addresses several pressing needs and several CUNY colleges are currently
implementing DegreeWorks. The promise is so great for this system that funding
here comes from the student technology fee.

Stephen Andrus brings outstanding expertise to the project. He has extensive
information systems project experience in the corporate world and in-depth
knowledge of Baruch, having taught for several years in the CIS department. We are
very fortunate to have his leadership, for the participation, cooperation and
coordination of many different departments and people is necessary to complete this
project. The entire academic community will be called upon to make DegreeWorks
effective here.

Once in production, DegreeWorks allows students to do on-line degree audits and
generate various What-If Analyses. A DegreeWorks audit is an on-line computerized
evaluation report that compares coursework and credits to intended degree
requirements. The What-If capabilities helps students and advisors determine, for
instance, whether the student has met the course requirements and has the GPA for
admission to the Zicklin School of Business.

These new capabilities will greatly enhance a student's understanding and control of
their academic progress, as well as proving an important tool for all advisors, faculty
members and staff. Along with providing these "front-line" functions, DegreeWorks
reporting capability helps to meet essential for planning, and research needs.

More information about DegreeWorks will be shared with the entire Baruch
community in the next few weeks and as we reach various milestones in the project.
