TO: Baruch College Community

FROM: President Kathleen Waldron

RE: Sexual Harassment Policy

DATE: December 3, 2004

On November 29, 2004, the Board of Trustees of The City University of New

York adopted the University’s Revised Policy Against Sexual Harassment and

the Revised Procedures for Implementation of the Policy Against Sexual

Harassment.

Minor modifications have been made to the Policy. Of particular note is

the assertion that sexual harassment is a form of gender discrimination.

Also revised is the terminology used to describe the basis upon which a

complaint of sexual harassment can be filed.

The Procedures have been restructured to address concerns about the

effectiveness of the sexual harassment panel for intake purposes and the

reporting process. Specifically the revised Procedures include changes

such as:

· Elimination of the Sexual Harassment Panel. The Sexual Harassment

Education Committee will be trained to handle complaint intake.

· Redefinition of the roles of the Sexual Harassment Panel Coordinator

and Deputy Coordinator.

· The requirement that the Affirmative Action Officer must be either

the Sexual Harassment Coordinator or a Deputy Coordinator. A faculty

member should be paired with the Affirmative Action Officer as either the

Coordinator or a Deputy. There may be multiple Deputy Coordinators.

· Incorporation of sexual harassment activities and outcomes of

complaints into a report on discrimination complaints.

I call your attention to Section G Procedures of the Policy which states

that “each dean, director, department chairperson, executive officer,

administrator, or other person with supervisory responsibility shall be

required to report any complaint of sexual harassment to the individual or

individuals designated in the procedures. All members of the University

community are required to cooperate in any investigation of a sexual

harassment complaint.”

Listed below are the names, departments and telephone numbers for each

member of the Sexual Harassment Education Committee.

· Carmen Pedrogo, Affirmative Action Officer, Panel Coordinator, (212)

802-2866

· Michael Plekon, Professor, Sociology and Anthropology, Deputy

Coordinator, (646) 312-4472

· Michele Epstein, Co-Chairperson, BCTC, (646) 312-1040

· Carl Kirschner, Co-Chairperson, Student Development, (646) 312-4570

· Frank Antonucci, Campus Facilities/Operations, (212) 802-2774

· Angelina Delgado, School of Public Affairs, (212) 802-5987

· Gayle DeLong, Economics and Finance, (646) 312-3493

· David Garlock, Purchasing/Auxiliary Services, (212) 802-2930

· Nita Lutwak, Psychology, (646) 312-3821

· Penelope Terry, Undergraduate Admissions, (646) 312-1375

They will be responsible for continuing to educate the college community

about sexual harassment through workshop presentations and printed

materials.
