UNDERGRADUATE CAREER DAY IS SEPT. 19.

The Career Development Center's Fall Career Day is this Friday, Sept. 19. This is
an opportunity for students to meet face-to-face with over 65 employers interested in
hiring full-time employees and interns. Career Day will take place from 12-4pm, in
the Vertical Campus gymnasium.

Find out which companies are attending and see what positions they are recruiting
for by visiting www.baruch.cuny.edu/careers/careerday. To sign up for Career Day,
students can log in to http://baruchcdc.erecruiting.com, click Calendar, then Sept. 19,
then Career Day, then Signup.

Students MUST wear business attire (men should wear suits with jackets and ties;
women should wear suits with jackets) and bring resumes and their ID card in order
to be admitted. This event is for current Baruch undergraduates and June or August
2003 graduates ONLY. No one will be admitted after 3:30pm.

FACULTY/STAFF LOUNGE UPDATE

The Faculty and Staff Lounge (VC 14-290) is a good place to talk with
colleagues, to meet people, to eat, or just to sit and read. Copies of the
Times and the Journal will be available, and the room contains a computer
station.

Refreshments are provided to encourage faculty and staff to visit and to interact.
Coffee and tea are available on Monday-Thursday from 8am to 6pm. Bagels,
muffins, and fruit are brought in at around noon. The drinks are refreshed
periodically but the food service ends when the food has been eaten. (Removing
from the room large amounts of food or drink -- for one's self or colleagues --
violates the spirit of this facility.) Please call Metropolitan Food Services from
the phone in the lounge (the number is posted) to notify them to refresh the
drinks. Owing to the many demands on their staff, quick response will not
always be possible.

Support for these refreshments comes from President Regan.

On several occasions during the fall semester (schedule TBA) senior administrators
will hold "office hours" in the lounge; they will be available to discuss whatever
issues are of concern to you and to get to know you better. On other occasions (also
TBA) faculty seminars will be held in the lounge on subjects related to teaching and
research. Please feel free to communicate ideas for these seminars to

We anticipate improving the decor of the lounge this year by posting photographs...
of you. Beginning with new members of our faculty and gradually expanding to other
faculty and staff, we've made arrangements for excellent-quality photos of
individuals and groups to decorate the walls -- a good way to begin to put names to
faces both new and longtime. Photo sessions will be announced; photos will rotate
roughly once a month; the first round of photos will appear later in September.

Re: Classroom Access Control

Date: September 13, 2003

Originally classroom doors were programmed to open 10 minutes before the
scheduled class and to lock 20 minutes after class began. This system was
implemented in the event a faculty member was late. However, based upon
feedback during the first academic year in the Vertical Campus, the system will be
reprogrammed beginning in June for the summer session.

Faculty members will now swipe their cards to gain access to classrooms. This
swipe will accomplish two purposes. First, it will open the door and allow it to stay
open for the duration of the scheduled class. Second, it will automatically lock the
door at the conclusion of class. This relieves the faculty of the responsibility of
having to swipe again in order to lock the door. The doors will no longer have to be
propped open with chairs, waste basket bins, etc., allowing access and egress as
necessary.

This solution will allow faculty and students the required access while keeping our
“smart classrooms” secure. It is everyone’s responsibility to maintain a safe and
secure environment – faculty, staff and students.
