Dear Colleague,

Last year the Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosted a high school recruitment
initiative called College for a Day. Over 200 high school seniors came to Baruch
that day to receive information about applying for college admission and financial
aid. To give them a sense of a typical day here at the College, we also arranged for
them to attend two 45 minute classes taught by Baruch faculty. After these classes,
the students had lunch and went on a tour of the campus.

The event was a tremendous success, so we're doing it again; not once, but twice!
Fridays November 14th and 21st are the days scheduled for this year's College for a
Day visits.

Many of the faculty members who taught last year's mini classes have already
expressed interest in signing on again this time around. Given their enthusiasm, we
thought that the rest of the Baruch community would be just as excited to help us; not
only to excite these students about the college experience, but also to clarify the
process by which to pursue it. We hope that by doing this we can encourage some
of the best and brightest students in New York City to seek out higher education,
preferably, but not necessarily, at Baruch.

Students will arrive at Baruch on the 14th and 21st at 8:30 a.m. After a sort greeting
and information session in VC 14-220, they will report to their first class at 9:45 a.m.
in one of the smaller rooms on the 14th floor. After that class, the students will attend
their second class at 10:45 a.m. taught by a different professor in the same room. If
you were to decide you wanted to teach two classes in the same morning and would
prefer to remain in the same room for both, we would try to arrange to bring in a new
class for you. Each class should not exceed 45 minutes and can be on any topic
you like, keeping in mind that these are high school students who are likely to have
never before attended a college class.

This year we are hoping to have about 200 students here for each College for a Day
visit. Ideally we would like to be able to offer between 8 to 10 classes on each of
those days. This will keep the size of the classes to about 15-25 students each. I
hope that you are available to volunteer to teach a class for us on either November
14th or 21st, or both. To express your interest in teaching or ask any questions
about College for a Day, please call David Keller at 646-312-1367.

This is a great way for us to reach out to the youth of the City while fostering our
standing leaders and innovators in higher education. I know I speak for everyone in
Undergraduate Admissions when I say that we would be grateful for whatever
amount of your energy, time and talent you are willing to contribute in service to our
cause. Thanks. I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

James Murphy
Asst. Vice President for Enrollment Services
