President Ned Regan has been named a trustee of the Financial Accounting
Foundation (see http://www.baruch.cuny.edu for the full story). The foundation
selects and oversees the members of the Financial Accounting Standards Board
(FASB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). This
represents his second term as a trustee of the foundation.

This appointment, coinciding as it does with major changes occurring in US
accounting, is one further step in making Baruch a crucial center of expertise in such
matters as accounting and auditing standards and corporate governance. Baruch’s
Center for Financial Integrity has already held major conferences on these issues,
including the move toward principle-based accounting and greater
internationalization of standards. In the coming year, Baruch is expected to become
the headquarters for an American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
initiative aimed at increasing investor access to such non-financial corporate
information as customer satisfaction and employee turnover, among others. Finally,
as most on campus know, Professor Douglas Carmichael was tapped by the SEC to
be chief auditor for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, which was
created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

The trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation are leaders in accounting,
business, and law. Robert E. Denham, Senior Partner, Munger, Tolles & Olson, and
Warren Buffet’s legal advisor, has just been named Chairman and President of the
Foundation. President Regan will also serve with Sam DiPiazza, CEO
PricewaterhouseCoopers; and Steve Patrick, Chief Financial Officer, Colgate-
Palmolive.
