To the College Community:

As a new semester begins, I have decided to make public my decision to step down
from the Presidency of Baruch College in June 2005, after completing a tenure of
five years of leadership. Announcing this decision now allows the City University
time to conduct a national search for a strong College president without the need for
an interim leader.

I am very pleased that I will remain a part of this vital community: Chancellor
Goldstein has indicated that I will be appointed a University Distinguished Professor
after June 2005.

The three-and-a-half years that I have served so far have been a source of pleasure
and learning for me. They have also been years of great achievements for the
college. The hallmark of these is the dramatic rise Baruch has achieved in the
retention and graduation rates of our students. Other achievements include the
opening of the Vertical Campus, giving us the opportunity to transform the teaching
and learning environment; initiation of important new programs and major public
events, which have engaged the economic and cultural life of New York in unique
ways; the improved academic preparedness of entering students, who remain
America’s most diverse; and the increased size our excellent faculty as well as its
growing national reputation for scholarship and teaching.

It is important to maintain our momentum. Working with senior administrators and
faculty, I plan to release several major goals soon that we as a campus community
can work together to achieve during the next 18 months.

Please know that I am grateful to the entire campus community for the opportunity to
serve this historic institution, which plays such an important role in the lives of so
many hard-working students and their families and in the vitality of our city.

Ned Regan
President
