As part of its mission to foster scholarly discussions about
communication and pedagogy, the Bernard L. Schwartz
Communication Institute is organizing a series of Faculty Luncheon
Seminars this semester on computer-mediated communication (or
CMC) at Baruch College. We are interested in finding faculty who
would like to present a short paper and lead a discussion with fellow
faculty members on ways they use (or have used) CMC to infuse
communication into their discipline (both inside and outside of the
classroom). We are interested in hearing faculty talk about what
worked and why, what hasn't work and why not, as well as an issue
they would like to raise. The presenter will be expected to submit a
short paper (and any supporting material) prior to a seminar so that
the Institute can pass it along to attendees ahead of time. After no
more than a twenty-minute presentation, the faculty member will lead
the participants in a discussion about the issues s/he raised. The
idea is to foster an exchange of ideas about real issues, real
problems and real solutions.
>
The seminars will be videotaped and made available on the Institute's
webpage along with supporting material. Presentations will also be
considered for publication as part of the Institute's Occasional Papers
on Communication and Communication-Intensive Instruction.
>
The Faculty Luncheon Seminars will be scheduled on a Wednesday
from 1:00 to 3:00 and will take place on the third floor of the Annex. If
you would like to propose a paper, please respond to this email.
Include an abstract and indicate which Wednesday would be best
suited for you.
