$10,000 AVAILABLE FOR \RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES

PSC CUNY Research Award Competition-Round 34
October 15 (Regular Cycle for Existing CUNY Faculty)
December 1 (Out-of-Cycle for New CUNY Faculty)

This program provides seed money for all tenured and tenure leading
CUNY faculty, including College Laboratory Technicians, to develop
your research and scholarly activities. Last year, 60 of your colleagues
received almost $250,000 in research funding from this competition.
Each applicant can be awarded up to $10,000, which enables faculty
to receive release time and/or summer salary, hire research staff,
travel, purchase materials/supplies, and cover other miscellaneous
costs attributed to your research. The funding success rate of this
program is over 85% and priority is given to non-tenured faculty.

We encourage all interested faculty to contact the Office of Sponsored
Programs and Research (SPAR) at 646/312-2205 for information and
to meet with Alan Evelyn, Director, to discuss your proposal. For more
information about the PSC CUNY Research Award Program, go to

http://www.rfcuny.org/PSCCUNY/default.html.

NOTE: New electronic submission procedures are available for some
panels. See above website for panels accepting electronic proposals.

ELIOT SPITZER AT BARUCH ON SEPT. 24

You are invited to hear ELIOT L. SPITZER, New York State Attorney
General, interviewed by JOSHUA MILLS, Baruch College Professor of
Business Journalism, on September 24th, 2002, at 6pm. The
interview will be followed by questions from the floor.

Eliot Spitzer, elected Attorney General of New York in 1998, expanded
the scope of the office by bringing suits against gun manufacturers,
drug companies and mid western polluters. Before the Enron
scandal, Spitzer used state fraud laws against Wall Street brokerage
firms, even though historically regulation of financial markets has
been a Federal responsibility. He sued brokerages for publishing
false and misleading analysts’ recommendations, and won a $100
million fine and a public apology from Merrill Lynch.

This event is free and open to all interested professionals, and carries
one CPE credit. A reception will follow the event.

Location: Baruch College – CUNY, 151 East 25th Street, William and
Anita Newman Conference Center, 7th Floor

CUNY ONLINE DLN

I am happy to announce that the CUNY Online Distributed Learning
Network is now up and running at http://www.dln.cuny.edu/ . The DLN
is a central directory of all online courses offered throughout CUNY. It
gives access not only to information but to points of contact for both
finding out about online instruction and registering for it. At present,
none of this changes the way things work: you'll find the links for
registering just use what campus registrar's told us they would prefer
students use. Similarly, the faculty info is self-reported, and you'll see
that some provide more information about their courses and are more
open to contact than others.

What the CUNY DLN would like now is to make the information offered
as up-to-date and comprehensive as possible. Therefore, if you are
teaching an online course this semester we invite you to list it on the
DLN.

PLEASE NOTE: An online course is defined, for the purposes of the
DLN, as one where at least one third of the course is conducted
on-line and not in class. Courses that simply have a web site or use a
mailing list but meet in class do not qualify as online courses.

If you are teaching an online course and would like to list it on the DLN
please go to

http://www.dln.cuny.edu/courseform.html

and fill out the appropriate information.

If you have any questions please contact me.
