The Baruch Bearcats men's team won its semifinal game last night, against
theLehman Lightning, in a 79-74 squeaker. That means we're in the finals, which are
scheduled for Friday night at 7:45 in the ARC, against City College, with its long
tradition of basketball supremacy. City was surprise victor over York College in a
79-68 game.
Meanwhile, several members of the Baruch community have inquired about the
meaning of "Bearcat." Webster's Third International gives three meanings:
1, BINTURONG 2. PANDA 3. A person or thing marked by especial power or force.
While it's always possible some were thinking of the binturong (an Asiatic
prehensile-tailed civet, in case you were wondering), I believe the minutes of all
relevant meetings will reflect that number 3 was what we had in mind.
