Subject: Classroom Access Control
Date: October 2, 2002
Originally classroom doors were programmed to open 10 minutes
before the scheduled class and to lock 20 minutes after class began.
This system was implemented in the event a faculty member was late.
However, based upon feedback during the first academic year in the
Vertical Campus, the system will be reprogrammed beginning in June
for the summer session.
Faculty members will now swipe their cards to gain access to
classrooms. This swipe will accomplish two purposes. First, it will
open the door and allow it to stay open for one hour. Second, it will
automatically lock the door one hour after the card has been swiped.
This relieves the faculty of the responsibility of having to swipe again
in order to lock the door. The doors will no longer have to be propped
open with chairs, waste basket bins, etc., allowing access and egress
as necessary.
This solution will allow faculty and students the required access while
keeping our Òsmart classroomsÓ secure. It is everyoneÕs
responsibility to maintain a safe and secure environment Ð faculty,
staff and students.
