To: The Baruch Community

From: David Dannenbring, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Ben Corpus, Vice President for Student Development &
       Enrollment Management

Re: Collaborative Restructuring

We are both convinced that the progress toward excellence achieved by
Baruch over the last decade, in which we all can take pride, has placed
the college in position to make significant gains in the years ahead. This
has been strongly evident from the many discussions that have taken place
surrounding the strategic planning process and the goals and aspirations
articulated through the unit budget presentations.

Within the last few months, the two of us have developed a strong
collaborative partnership. While our roles are unique, we have found more
similarities than differences in developing strategic goals that will help
to improve the student experience both academically and throughout the
college. As part of this process we have been exploring ways in which we
can pool resources to better meet these institutional needs.

As a first step, the Center for Advisement and Orientation and the Office
of Testing and Evaluation will now report to Vice President Corpus, areas
in which he has had previous oversight experience at both Plattsburgh
State and Hostos. Neither of these areas will physically move. The change
in reporting structure, which includes directors Mark Spergel, Sharon
Ricks and Denyse Ramkaran, will permit greater integration of the student
experience, particularly for those students entering the college as
freshmen or transfers. We both recognize that the academic enterprise is
at the heart of our endeavors, and collaborative relationships can often
be more meaningful than reporting lines.

In addition, we will be working collaboratively on a number of other
activities that include enrollment management, implementation of
DegreeWorks, expansion of the learning communities, and building a
stronger sense of community, all of which you will be hearing more about
in the future.
