May 30th, 2002, 11.30 am – 2.30pm

“Corporate Governance: Reforms in the Post-Enron Era”

Moderator: Arthur Levitt
former SEC chair, now Senior Advisor of the Carlyle Group
Discussants:
John C. Bogle
founder of the Vanguard family of funds
and
William Crist
President of CalPERS

Mutual funds and pension funds together own an enormous
proportion of the equity market, and these owners are crucial to finding
non-regulatory, self-governing, free-market solutions to the current
financial reporting crisis. Both John Bogel and William Crist have
been outspoken and active in the battle for shareholder rights in the
past and will have a great deal to say about how owners rights should
be protected in the future.

Lunch will be served

Re: Classroom Access Control

Currently classroom doors are programmed to open 10 minutes
before the scheduled class and to lock 20 minutes after class begins.
This system was implemented in the event a faculty member was late.
However, based upon feedback during the first academic year in the
Vertical Campus, the system will be reprogrammed beginning in June
for the summer session.

Faculty members will now swipe their cards to gain access to
classrooms. This swipe will accomplish two purposes. First, it will
open the door and allow it to stay open for the duration of the
scheduled class. Second, it will automatically lock the door at the
conclusion of class. This relieves the faculty of the responsibility of
having to swipe again in order to lock the door. The doors will no
longer have to be propped open with chairs, waste basket bins, etc.,
allowing access and egress as necessary.

This solution will allow faculty and students the required access while
keeping our “smart classrooms” secure. It is everyone’s
responsibility to maintain a safe and secure environment - faculty, staff
and students.
