Colleagues:

Please join me in welcoming our new Assistant Vice President for Student
Affairs, Dr. Corlisse Thomas to Baruch College. Dr. Thomas will oversee
various areas in Student Development including Academic Advisement,
Athletics and Recreation, Career Development, Counseling, Disability
Services, the Early Learning Center, Health, Orientation, SEEK, and
Student Life. In overseeing Athletics, Dr. Thomas will also serve as
Baruch's Senior Women's Athletic Administrator, an official designation
stemming from the NCAA.

Dr. Thomas, a native of New York City, completed her undergraduate work at
Tufts University and received her master's and doctorate from Teachers
College, Columbia University. Her career in higher education has included
functional responsibilities in many areas including Academic Advising,
Academic Support Services, Student Activities, Greek Affairs,
Multicultural Affairs, and Admissions.

Dr. Thomas currently serves as Associate Dean of Student Affairs for
Columbia College and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied
Science at Columbia University. As a member of the senior staff of
Columbia's Division of Student Affairs, she has had responsibility for
working collaboratively to determine the direction of the Division's
student affairs initiatives. Her roles have included overall managerial
and fiscal responsibility for diversity, Columbia's Intercultural Resource
Center, Academic Success Programs, and the Scholars and Fellowships
Office. Her most recent undertaking was to create Columbia's first Office
of Multicultural Affairs. She has rich experience in higher education
having served several institutions in addition to Columbia including St.
John's University, Clark University, Fitchburg State, and Fairleigh
Dickinson University.

This was a very competitive search and we are very enthusiastic about her
arrival next month. I am very appreciative to the students, faculty,
cabinet, and staff who participated in the search process.

Sincerely,

Ben M. Corpus, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Development
  & Enrollment Management
