Baruch’s Essential Workers Recognized
[https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/images/essential3.jpg]<https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/coronavirus/CommunityConnections.htm>
The pandemic has taught our community many lessons, including a renewed appreciation and respect for how interconnected our lives are. To better understand the situation of Baruch’s essential work force—those who continue to work on-site as the majority work and study remotely—Mona Jha, Esq., the College’s chief diversity officer, spoke with Juan Gonzalez, Mailroom supervisor; Angel Camacho, senior stationary engineer; and Roseann Pilgrim, lieutenant, Office of Public Safety (photos above). The message Please Join Me in Thanking Baruch’s Essential Workers<https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/files/June15-ALettertoOurCommunity.pdf> and their stories show the professionalism and dignity with which Baruch’s essential workers perform their responsibilities while balancing new challenges and hardships. For more stories and resources that showcase the ways in which Baruch remains strong and forward looking, visit the College’s Community Connections<https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/coronavirus/CommunityConnections.htm> page. Thank you!

Baruch College Closes in Honor of Juneteenth Holiday

The CUNY Board of Trustees has approved a resolution to observe tomorrow, June 19, as a University-wide holiday. Baruch will be closed.

June Is Pride Month

This week the Supreme Court issued its historic, civil rights–affirming ruling, protecting LGBTQ people from workplace discrimination. Reflecting on this moment is the College-wide message Celebrating with Pride<https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/files/June16-CelebratingwithPride.pdf>.

Tomorrow Is Juneteenth
“This year, Juneteenth has rightfully gained the widespread national attention and appreciation that it has long deserved,” wrote President-Designate S. David Wu, PhD, in this morning’s Celebrating Juneteenth<https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/files/PresidentsMessage06182002-CelebratingJuneteenth.pdf> message. The date—June 19—marks the official end of slavery in the U.S., though growing national awareness of ingrained racial injustice has shown just how much more needs to be done. In response, Dr. Wu has vouched to renew Baruch’s commitment “to help recalibrate society and mindsets.” Visit the president-designate’s new website<https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=K4k8HGgsxUefRzwo6O2xqw&ref_id=nBs-uU8eT06HW9ozykL7Rg> to learn more.
