Construction and Renovation at Baruch

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I write to provide the Baruch community with an update on recent construction as well as several renovation projects taking place around the College.

Sidewalk Scaffolding Installation on South Campus
Sidewalk scaffolding is currently being placed around the Administration and Lawrence and Eris Field buildings as part of necessary repairs to the façades of each structure. This work is unrelated to the renovation of the Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue. It is required to be done every five years under the Local Law 11.
Once the scaffolding is installed, repairs on each building will be verified and work will be completed by a contractor. As each façade is completed and inspected, the scaffolding will be removed. It is anticipated that scaffolding will remain in place for approximately one year as repairs are made.

Information and Technology Building
The installation of terrazzo flooring in front of the elevators on the 7th floor has been completed and polished. Subsequently, the stone and tile wall base will be reinstalled, completing all contractor work on the 7th floor.

On the 2nd floor, scaffolding has been installed so sun-damaged wood panels can be restored. This process involves removing the original finish, re-staining, and sealing the panels. The work is estimated to take two months.

The Allen G. and Mary E. Aaronson Student Center
We remain on track to open the Aaronson Student Center, located in the historic Madison Square Station Post Office, for the Spring 2020 semester. A portion of the 24th Street post office will be built out to serve as Baruch's student center lobby with an elevator and stairs leading to the 5,500-square-foot sub-ground-level space. The Aaronson Student Center will house a large multipurpose space, a lounge area, and meeting rooms.

Clivner=Field Plaza
Utility work, which includes steam, gas, and water main upgrades, is mostly completed except on the street intersections for Third and Lexington avenues. The next phase of the project will encompass the above-ground work, including sidewalks, pavers, light poles, and seating. Currently, the contractor has begun installing foundations for lighting poles and low seating walls, as well as street lighting conduits. The contractor is also continuing to remove granite seating foundation on the plaza.

Due to the unanticipated complexity of the below-ground utilities work for the Clivner=Field Plaza, the projected March completion date has been pushed out. The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), which manages the plaza project, is reviewing an updated schedule. Once DDC completes its review, Baruch will have a new projected completion date. As soon as we have a date, I will share that news with the campus community. Please visit the Clivner=Field Plaza webpage<https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=8WIefIsXXk2JvFkprXupwA&ref_id=qq0b1MOj8k-QDI8i0eJNsw> for an archive of photos and updates.
Renovation of the Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue
A great deal of progress has been made on the renovation project of the Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue. Recent milestones have focused on major infrastructure upgrades that are the necessary foundation for all future work. In the near term, we are on track with the modernization of two more elevators and expect all six elevators in the building online by the start of the Spring 2020 semester. We are also working to complete the new ADA-accessible lobby and Lexington Avenue entry way, with the goal of unveiling them in mid-March. Please visit the 17 Lex project webpage<https://pmail.baruch.cuny.edu/PoliteMail/default.aspx?page=iw-8EaAygke4sXibG_E44w&ref_id=qq0b1MOj8k-QDI8i0eJNsw> for additional information.

While a project of this scale brings unavoidable disruptions and inconvenience, please be aware that the College continuously strives to mitigate any issues-both proactively and as they arise unexpectedly. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we advance this necessary work.

Baruch Buzzes with Improvements
I hope this summary of campus improvements helps contextualize any frustration you may feel. All of this represents great forward momentum that will keep our campus vibrant for generations to come.

Thank you for your interest, continued patience, and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Katharine Cobb
Vice President of Administration and Finance
