UPDATE: 2020 Virtual Commencement Experience

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Our Virtual Commencement Experience is quickly approaching. I look forward to all of us gathering on Monday, June 8, at 9:30 am to celebrate Class of 2020!

While social distancing requirements prohibit us from gathering together at Barclays Center, as originally scheduled, it will not deter us from acknowledging the hard work and achievements of our graduates. Our Commencement is not cancelled; nor is it indefinitely postponed. As originally planned, Monday, June 8 is the Class of 2020's moment to shine!

Please visit the Virtual Commencement Experience<baruch.cuny.edu/2020commencementexperience> website regularly for up-to-date information. The link currently points to the Office of Student Life Commencement webpage<https://studentaffairs.baruch.cuny.edu/studentlife/commencement/> that includes vital information on regalia, digital diplomas, the Lexicon yearbook, and more.

Following that, the Virtual Commencement Experience goes as follows:

* On Monday, June 1, baruch.cuny.edu/2020commencementexperience<https://studentaffairs.baruch.cuny.edu/studentlife/commencement/> will take you to a special Virtual Commencement Experience website that will include a range of videos, such as congratulatory messages and brief reels that look back on the 2019-20 school year.

* On Monday, June 8, at 9:30 am, our Virtual Commencement Experience will go live! It will begin with a 30-minute video that features a welcome from Interim Provost James McCarthy; a special performance by the Blue Notes; and a valedictory address by Annmarie Gajdos, who has been selected as valedictorian of the Class of 2020. President Mitchel B. Wallerstein, PhD, will also deliver the keynote and, together with the deans, confer the graduate and undergraduate degrees for each of our three schools.

* Digital diplomas and watch parties will follow a synchronous run of the video. Special sites will go live for the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and the Zicklin School of Business. Each site will include video remarks from the school's dean, as well as clips from faculty and staff. Every student will also receive a digital diploma and graduates' names will be announced, as long as the pronunciation has been supplied in advance. (Visit this website<https://studentaffairs.baruch.cuny.edu/studentlife/commencement/> to upload an audio clip.) Student clubs and organizations will also host special watch parties. Visit this website<https://studentaffairs.baruch.cuny.edu/studentlife/commencement/> frequently for a continuously updated list of virtual parties.

This spring term has been like no other in the history of Baruch College and the world. It has involved heartache and hardship that was previously unimaginable, yet we have rallied as a community and overcome so many obstacles. Let us end this academic year with joy as we celebrate the Class of 2020, all they have accomplished, and the world of possibilities they have yet to achieve.

Sincerely,

Art King
Vice President for Student Affairs and
Dean of Students
