17 Lex Renovation, Phase 1A Update: Elevator Upgrade

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

On Monday, Oct. 30, contractors will begin work on the foundation underneath the north and south elevator banks in the Lawrence and Eris Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue. This is a vital component of the planned upgrade to the elevator cabs and other equipment and machinery.

This phase of the project will necessitate a temporary disruption of elevator service beginning Monday, Oct. 30. At least three cars will be operating at all times, including one car permitting access to the 16th floor. Following is a project timeline.


*         Monday, Oct. 30 to Thursday, Nov. 30 - The three north-bank elevators will be removed from service. The three south-bank elevators will be remain in service.

*         Thursday, Nov. 30 to Saturday, Dec. 30 - One south-bank elevator will be in service but two will not be. Two north-bank elevators will also be in service.

*         After Dec. 30 - Four elevators will be remain in service at all times until the elevator replacement is complete in 2019.
