A Baruch Student Tested Positive for COVID-19

Dear Members of the Baruch College Community,

Yesterday, we learned that a Baruch student, who was last on campus on Monday, March 9th, and asymptomatic at the time, tested positive for COVID-19. The student is home and recovering and we send him our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Because the student started having symptoms on Friday, March 13th, several days after having been on campus, the risk to our community is low based on NY State Department of Health official guidelines.

Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, we are doing a thorough cleaning of the Newman Library (Information and Technology building-ITB) which was, according to our records, where the student went on March 9th. The library will be closed effective immediately and until further notice. The situation will be re-evaluated over the weekend.

The B&G staff have been actively engaged since last weekend in deep cleaning and disinfecting all of Baruch's buildings, including the ITB. This work continued last night, and the plan is to complete the task for the entire campus. The protocols we are using are in compliance with Department of Health standards.

Your health and safety is our number one priority. We will keep you informed of developments. Please continue to check Baruch's COVID-19 Updates webpage<https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/coronavirus/?utm_source=webslider> for the latest information as well as CUNY's site<https://www.cuny.edu/coronavirus/> for University-wide updates.

As always, if you are sick, please contact your healthcare provider. If you do not have a healthcare provider, please call 311. Students who experience symptoms such as a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing or shortness of breath should also contact Dean of Students Art King at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Faculty and staff who experience these symptoms should contact Human Resources Executive Director Andrea Caviness at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

These are extraordinary times. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and loyalty to Baruch College.

Sincerely,

Mitchel B. Wallerstein, PhD
President, Baruch College
