CUNY Chancellor Appointed: Congratulations Felix V. Matos Rodriguez, PhD

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As I am sure you have heard, The City University of New York (CUNY) has chosen a new Chancellor and he is one of our own: Dr. Felix V. Matos Rodriguez, the current president of Queens College.

Along with the other CUNY presidents and members of the Chancellery, I was present last evening when the board-led by Chair William C. Thompson Jr.-formally voted for the appointment of Chancellor-designate Matos Rodriguez. I have worked closely with Felo (as he is known) during my entire nine-year tenure at Baruch and am very enthusiastic about this development. I know him to be a man of keen intellect and high integrity. He has a wonderful sense of humor and he understands CUNY well, especially since he has served as president of both a community college and a senior college.

When he assumes office on May 1, Chancellor-designate Matos Rodriguez will become the first Latino to lead The City University of New York. I invite you to read more about his impressive background in CUNY's announcement<http://www1.cuny.edu/mu/forum/2019/02/13/queens-college-president-felix-v-matos-rodriguez-to-be-named-chancellor-of-city-university-of-new-york/>.

I applaud the appointment of Dr. Matos Rodriguez, and am eager to join him in the hard work ahead to address funding and other challenges that the University faces. With the selection of Dr. Matos Rodriguez, I believe that CUNY has entered a new era.

Sincerely,

Mitchel B. Wallerstein, PhD
President
