Progress on the Renovation of the Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

I am happy to report significant progress in the renovation of the Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue. The new, renovated elevator lobby opens today for the start of the spring semester. The front entrance lobby, separated by a new glass wall from the elevator lobby, will remain under construction.

Features of the new elevator lobby include:

* Four new elevators. Within the next couple of weeks, a fifth elevator will join the four renovated elevators. By March, all six elevators will be in service.

* New granite benches alongside the glass wall.

* New marble walls around elevators

* A new terrazzo floor. After the installation of the front lobby's terrazzo floor, both floors will be given a final polish to ensure an even appearance overall.

* A new ceiling with temporary lights. The new vault designed to bring increased electrical power into the building is ready for Con Ed to connect. After Con-Ed completes this work, the contractor will install the permanent lights.

Completing Phase 1A
This current phase of the larger 17 Lex renovation, called Phase 1A, should be completed in the next several months. Work will continue in the front entrance lobby, with the expectation it will be finished this spring. Other ongoing projects include completing the roof installation, bringing the new Con Ed vault online, and finishing work in the basement on building systems. You can review past messages, project plans, photos, and architectural renderings here<https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/17lexupdate/project-overview.html>.

We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation during the last two years of construction. We all look forward to the successful completion of Phase 1A and to having a beautiful and ADA-compliant entryway to greet students, faculty, staff, and guests every day.

Sincerely,

Katharine Cobb
Vice President of Administration and Finance
