Con Edison Has Issued a Mandatory Energy Reduction

Dear Campus Community,

Con Edison is asking customers in the area of East 14th Street to East 31st Street, between 5th Avenue and the East River, to reduce electrical consumption as much as possible.

Baruch's engineers are already reducing the College's energy consumption by raising the temperature, turning off escalators, and turning off or reducing corridor and atrium lights.

Please do your part to prevent a brownout or blackout.

Across the campus, turn off or curtail the use of all unnecessary lights, printers, microwaves, machines, etc. If you have a window air conditioner, such as offices in 17 Lex, please raise the temperature.

This alert remains in effect until 5 pm, but that time could be extended.

If we lose power: Turn off all appliances, avoid downed and hanging power lines, and keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to prevent spoilage.

We thank you in advance for understanding and complying with this mandatory reduction.

Sincerely,

Lisa Edwards
Assistant Vice President, Campus Facilities
