Mandatory Reduction in Energy Consumption Scheduled Today

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Please be advised that Baruch participates in the Energy Demand Response Program. This program requires all participating CUNY campuses to reduce energy consumption significantly, when requested, in order to prevent rolling brownouts or blackouts.

We have been informed that a Mandatory Energy Reduction Event is scheduled for today, Friday, August 12, from noon until 6 pm.

The following Baruch buildings and services will be affected:


*         In the Newman Vertical Campus: Two elevators will be offline; all escalators from the first floor to the fifth floor will be turned off. In addition, the atrium will not be lit.


*         In the Information and Technology Building: Two elevators will be turned off.


*         In the Administrative Building: Two elevators will be turned off.


*         College-wide: Air-conditioning consumption will be reduced by raising the temperature in certain areas. Other equipment will be shut off or adjusted as required.

Additionally, we ask that everyone reduce his or her electrical consumption during this time by turning off or curtailing the use of all unnecessary lights, printers, microwaves, machines, etc.
