Mandatory Reduction in Energy Consumption Today



To Students, Faculty, and Staff:



Please be advised that CUNY participates in an Energy Demand Response program. This program requires all participating CUNY campuses to reduce energy consumption significantly when requested to prevent rolling brownouts or blackouts. Twice each year, participants are also tested to show a pre-set energy reduction for a one-hour period to ensure the energy savings can be met.



One of the twice-yearly tests will be conducted today, Wednesday, August 2, between 1:45 and 3:15 pm. The following services will be affected during that timeframe:



·         Newman Vertical Campus: Two elevators will be offline; all escalators from the first floor to the fifth floor will be turned off. In addition there will be no lighting in the atrium.

·         The Information & Technology Building: Two elevators will be turned off.

·         Administrative Building: One elevator will be turned off.

·         Field Building at 17 Lex: One elevator will be turned off.

·         Air conditioning consumption will also be reduced by raising the temperature in certain areas.



In addition, we ask that everyone reduce their electrical consumption between 1:45 and 3:15 pm by turning off or curtailing the use of all unnecessary lights, machines, etc.
