Baruch College’s Eighth President Announced by CUNY and Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I am pleased to share with you the news that the Board of Trustees of The City University of New York last night approved the appointment of Dr. S. David Wu as the eighth president of Baruch College. Dr. Wu is currently the provost and executive vice president of George Mason University, and he will assume his appointment at Baruch on July 1, 2020. President-designate Wu will be the first Asian American president in the history of CUNY.

In selecting Dr. Wu to be the next president, I believe that Chancellor Matos Rodríguez and the presidential search committee have ensured Baruch’s continued national prominence in educational excellence, access, and social mobility. You can read CUNY’s full announcement here<https://www1.cuny.edu/mu/forum/2020/02/03/cuny-appoints-next-president-of-baruch-college/>.

It continues to be my honor and privilege to serve as your president. Together, we have built, expanded, improved, and innovated on every conceivable front: facilities, academic programming, student support services, student and faculty success measures, and—owing to all of that—our regional, national, and discipline-specific rankings and reputation have grown significantly. It is my intention to continue the work we have underway and to complete as much of it as possible, before I step down following the Baruch College Commencement in early June.

On Thursday, March 26, I plan to deliver a comprehensive State of the College address at the time of the General Faculty meeting, and I look forward to seeing you there so that we can review and celebrate together the incredible progress that we have made during the past 10 years.

In the meantime, please join me in welcoming our eighth president, Dr. S. David Wu.

Sincerely,

Mitchel B. Wallerstein
President
