Let’s Unite: Join Our Virtual Commencement Experience on Monday, June 8

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

This spring and the past few days have been undeniably tumultuous. First the COVID-19 pandemic upended our lives, and now the world is responding to another tragic and senseless death of a black man, George Floyd, while in police custody. We join in solemn solidarity with those individuals who are acting from a place of commitment to the justice and change essential for our nation to progress.

Now, more than ever, we need to unite as a community and focus on positive change and the incredible achievements of the Class of 2020. I hope you, your families and friends, will join us on Monday, June 8, at 9:30 am, as we host Baruch’s Virtual Commencement Experience celebrating our graduates’ success.

The event will take place on our Virtual Commencement Experience website<https://2020commencementexperience.baruch.cuny.edu/> but please don’t wait until Monday to visit. This week, the website is hosting a selection of congratulatory messages and brief video reels that capture 2019–20 school-year memories. You can also find a link to a growing list of watch parties that you can join on the big day.

On June 8, at 9:30 am, the Virtual Commencement Experience kicks off with a 30-minute video, including a welcome from Interim Provost James McCarthy; a special performance by the Blue Notes; an address by Annmarie Gajdos, who has been selected as valedictorian of the Class of 2020; and a celebratory message from Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez. President Mitchel B. Wallerstein, PhD, will also deliver the keynote and, together with the deans, confer the graduate and undergraduate degrees for each of our three schools.

Following the virtual ceremony, special sites will go live for the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and the Zicklin School of Business. Each site will include video remarks from the school’s dean as well as congratulatory messages from faculty and staff. Personalized symbolic digital diplomas will be featured for ceremonial purposes—and for sharing on social media. Student clubs and organizations will also host special watch parties.

Please visit the website now and throughout the week, and join us as we gather together as a community on Monday, June 8, at 9:30 am.

The Black Student Union will also be hosting their 2nd Annual Black Graduation Ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of Baruch’s Black graduates. The ceremony will take place on Friday, June 5th from 3:00-4:00 pm. For information on how to participate, please contact Crystal Tejada at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Sincerely,

Art King
Vice President for Student Affairs and
Dean of Students
