Baruch Begins a New Era in Higher Education Leadership

President S. David Wu officially began his tenure yesterday, July 1. He joins Baruch at an auspicious time, as the College reimagines higher education in the post-pandemic world. In his greeting <https://president.baruch.cuny.edu/presidents-messages/hello-baruch-i-am-thrilled-to-start-our-new-journey-together/> to the College community, President Wu expressed his profound admiration for how Baruch has handled challenges thus far and said he was confident that the College would emerge as a national exemplar in the shifting higher education landscape.

Since 2014, he served as provost and executive vice president of George Mason University where he launched innovative academic programs, embraced multi-disciplinary collaboration, and increased student diversity and academic outcomes. President Wu is a renowned scholar and technology innovator in systems engineering. His work has been implemented or tested at firms such as Intel, HP, and IBM. Welcome, President Wu!

Interim Leader Named for Weissman
Jessica Lang, PhD, chair and professor in the Department of English, has been appointed interim dean-designate<https://provost.baruch.cuny.edu/messages/jessica-lang-named-interim-dean-designate-at-the-weissman-school-of-arts-and-sciences/> of the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences. In this role, Dr. Lang will take on a number of critical initiatives, including planning flexible course delivery for the fall, keeping students across degree programs on a path to timely graduation, and managing services and needs that arise in the unpredictable Covid-19 landscape. She will work closely with all of the chairs in WSAS in identifying and addressing areas in need of support and reinvigoration.



Students Explore Critical Topics on Creative Inquiry Day

Undergraduates from a range of majors delved into timely topics-from COVID-19 to mental health treatment barriers-for Creative Inquiry Day, an annual event celebrating the strength and diversity of undergraduate research projects. Topics spanned from arts and humanities to natural sciences and psychology. Four submissions also received the Jerome L. Schulman Memorial Poetry Prize. The virtual event was held on May 7-14. Baruch Ranked #1 Nationally in Economic Mobility

The Brookings Institution has ranked Baruch #1<https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/pressroom/BaruchCollegeNumberOneFourYearPublicCollegeEconomicMobility.htm> among the nation's public colleges and #2 among public and private institutions for successfully promoting upward economic and social mobility among lower-income students. This latest recognition that adds to Baruch's growing list of acknowledgment for successfully moving students up the income ladder, from the lowest economic rung to the middle class and beyond.

Student Support from the Counseling Center
The Counseling Center offers students free and confidential individual counseling and support sessions focused on wellness, stress reduction, and handling grief.

New Black Mental Health Matters Sessions
In light of the recent events of racial violence and injustice and the outcry for support, the Baruch College Counseling Center would like to invite you to join Black Mental Health Matters. These support sessions aim to foster and support the growth, networking, collaboration, success, and well-being of Black students. If you are interested in finding a safe space to meet and talk with others who may have similar experiences as Black students, then these support sessions are for you. They will be led by two Black Psychologists, Dr. Jael Amador and Dr. Gary Dillon, who work from a social justice and multicultural framework.

*         Wednesdays, 2-3 pm on Zoom
